If you'd been serving in the S.Korean/Taiwanese/PLA/Israeli armed forces or those on a semi-war footing, you would not have been merely punished with permanent rank retention. Think of detention, hard labour, being busted down to the lowliest rank - maybe beatings on the side. Ironically, a battlefield promotion for valour or leadership may be your one and only way to get what you had been denied - not posthumously of course.

At the end of the day, the basis of military law is deterrence, pure and simple, hence defaulters must be dealt with swiftly, harshly, impartially, with scant regard to mitigation pleas, psychologists' findings, character testimonies. Posts on the statement welcomed.

PS - That being said, thankfully I was never charged for verbal insubordination in my time owing to a very very patient OC who knew the difference between impulsive teenage exuberance and premeditated wilful malice.

just started watching house and its pretty impressive show….
As final year medical student want to point out some medical inconsistency [actually i am fan of house....most brilliant doctor i have ever seen even if he is fictional and has somewhat similarities to holmes] yet writers not so brilliant..!

Transpupillary retinal biopsy is not possible , such procedure would result in corneal scarring and cataract formation, with likely most likely resulting in ectopia lentis [lens dislocation], vitreous hemorrhage, and retinal detachment....which can cause permanent blindness Retinal biopsy can only be done by experienced ophthalmologist using vitrectomy techniques.

@jeffrey i am fan of your speculation about this series and given your medical background how did you miss it buddy? i guess ophtha is not your favorite subject...;)

who is writing script of show anyways? are they having some medical background? because rest of medical data seems pretty convincing i suppose…

Hello, I would check out cadence app , it is an application that makes it easy to find music that matches the beats per minute you run at.

http://www.cadenceapp.com

you select the beats per minute that matches your speed, it plays all the music you have that matches that speed.

This case proves that gender is a natural phenomenon, based on the person's brain structure, and not the genitalia or hormones. Both were removed from this boy, and he still knew he was a boy. If it is a matter of nuture, and his gender was changed before he was old enough to define himself as male socially, then why would he want to be male?

Gender is also very difficult to define, as this culture attempts to tell us that there are simply two genders, and no in between, which isn't true. Culture says that there are specific behavioral traits that comprise gender, but people are too multi-faceted to simply be lumped into on category or another. There is a large area between the genders, where we get people with both masculine and feminine traits.

Also, this has absolutely nothing to do with homosexuality. I personally know a person, born male, who is transitioning to female and is attracted to women. A

is appendicectomy -- especially open -- really the "safe" answer for scenario B? There's no real rush to theatre if the patient has an unperfed appendix, and so the downside of doing the CT is more subtle, as is the upside.

Downside: cost, radiation dosage, annoying radiology registrars.
Upside: identify non-appendiceal pathology, especially in the multiply-entered-belly case where an open appendix may be more appropriate.

as for investigations: I'd still CXR/ECG/ABG pt 1. quick, cheap, and gives you useful information (not that it'd necessarily change your management).

(congrats on the publication, btw. being last author is an unusual place.)

My son first saw Paddy Dewan when he was 9 months old and had his first op (stage one of a 2 stage hypospadies repair) just before he turned one. After my somewhat active baby tore his internal stitches he ended up back in surgery at 3am. I will never forget that even exhausted at 5am, Paddy Dewan took the time to sit with me and talk over what had happened and what they had done, to tell me to look after myself as well. This was back in 2002. We were back to see him for a checkup just last week. When we first took Owen to a surgeon he literally threw his arms in the air and said he wasn't qualified to treat him, he went on to refer us to Paddy Dewan - saying he is the only one qualified to treat him. Who else would I trust to care for my boy? If Paddy Dewan is suspended...we will be requesting an appointment for the first day after the suspension ends for a review.

My son has been a patient of Professor Dewan for four years and still going. My son's previous appointment was Wed 25th November and I was sadden by how Paddy was being treated. When we first met he was located in the hospital then moved to the consulting rooms and now I am disgusted to learn that he has been shoved way out the back. Do "THEY" think that pushing him out is going to fix their wrong beliefs? Is it a case of out of sight out of mind? I don't think so. Too many people remember where he is and what he has done for our children....I know I do. It really gets up my nose that we might lose a brilliant surgeon whom is both passionate and compassionate to someone else who will appreciate this wonderful man all because our medical system ............................................................................................sucks!
