away for the weekend
after much deliberation, i have finally decided to take part in the Upper Murray Challenge. Well not the whole thing. Just partially. Of the 3 legs, i will give the mountain biking part a miss. so only the 26km kayaking and 25km run. It will be tough and so this weekend, as part of training, i will be heading up (5hr drive) up to Khancoban, NSW for their familiarisation weekend.

I will paddle in the morning myself, then in the afternoon with a few of them who had mountain biked in the morning. Sunday morning we will have a run along the route. I will have a taste of how tough it is and how hard i have to train. i figure i really needed something this semester to train for, other wise i will just rot away and gain a whole lot of useless excess weight. last semester i had the Great Ocean Road 45km to train for, this semester it will be this.

This morning i had a 1-hr paddle along the Yarra River with my rented TK1. it was fantastic. liberating. the feeling of having the boat cut through the water, with each paddle is indescribable. you got to try it to know it.
On the kayaking note, the picture on the left shows Marlborough Sounds in New Zealand. It is such a lovely place from what i can see and i hope i can find some buddy to go with at the end of the year after exams. There are kayak rentals available and it will be great touring the many sounds there.
With over 50 Department of Conservation campsites within the Sounds, and over 1500 km of sheltered coastline there is plenty of space. Paddlers also have the option of using some of the various lodges dotted around the sounds

Have a great time!
Never tried kayaking, but the combination sounds like a great challenge. Kind of a triathlon with a boat.
I’ve combined running and swimming for some work outs lately. Running to a lake nearby, swimming for about an hour and running home again. Very nice!
Hey it’s exciting to know that you are still into long distance racing! Sometimes it gets boring when you are just doing it by yourself. I am gonna keep up with my training myself and we can go for a race together next time!
Duke sounds exactly like what I want to do too!
Let’s do it together next time.
u mean dude? haha. yeah sure. we aim to get fit, and aim to do moderately well for those one-day events. then eventually we can do a 5day kind of adventure race, more extensive, includes abseiling, rope work, navigation, etc. THAT will be cool.
